Yara,
I live on the east coast, so I really only know great ideas for this side of the states. But my favorites are of course New York City. It is a fabulous time for families. The decorations are amazing, especially the Rockefeller Tree and the 5th Avenue windows. Go see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes, I went last year and I felt like a kid it was so much fun to watch.
If you are farther south, check out Asheville, NC. The Grove Park Inn there hosts the National Gingerbread Contests and the Biltmore Estate, which is the largest private home in the U.S., does beautiful decorations.
Other than that I would say a cruise would be a bunch of fun for a family over the holidays. Food is good, activities are plentiful, and you can get a tan in the middle of winter :)
Have fun & good luck.
