Do you have to have reservations for camping at Allegany State Park?
I would like to take my two children tent camping at Allegany State Park but we're not sure if we're going to arrive there Friday evening or Saturday. I don't want to make a reservation but also I don't want to drive two hours just to have them tell me they don't allow "walk ins".. I wouldn't mind roughing it out in the forest but with two children it's easier to have the bathrooms and showers..or does anyone have any suggestions where we can go that we can go to a first come first serve camp ground? Thanks!

I called the park to see what kind of availability they have and they definitely recommend getting a reservation for weekend stays. The guy I talked with also said there were only four or five campsites available as of yesterday for this coming weekend, so you may be cutting it a little fine if you want to head up there tomorrow or on Saturday. One thought about a Saturday visit is that there could well be no-shows, too. I noticed on the Allegany State Park website that they allow one-night reservations via the Call Center within three days of your visit, so you could possibly call tonight or tomorrow and see if there is availability for a Saturday stay. Hope this helps! http://nysparks.com/parks/1/details.aspx
