Day in Punta Arenas, Chile - what's the one thing we should not miss?
We hate shopping and want to experience some real culture/food or something adventurous.

By all accounts, Punta Arenas has the reputation as a gateway rather than as a destination in and of itself. In some ways, this befits its history as a shipping outpost on the far-southern tip of South America. Nearby, you've got the vast wilderness landscapes of Tierra del Fuego, as well as Antarctica beyond. Many people stop here on their way to Ushuaia, Argentina, a scenic route through some of Patagonia's most spectacular landscapes. For a taster, you should make a day trip to see the Magellanic penguin colonies at Seno Otway, which is about 40 miles outside of Punta Arenas. Best time to view these famously monogamous penguins, also known as jackass penguins, is November to February.
