are there an abundance of high rises in Destin or can you still rent a condo in a smaller complex on the beach?

Destin does have a lot of high-rise buildings on the beach. If you're looking for something a bit more intimate, try heading down Hwy. 30/98 a bit toward Sandestin, or even further on scenic Hwy. 30-A to Blue Mountain, Grayton, or Seagrove. The beaches around Grayton are beautiful, with not a high-rise in sight.
