1. I would like advice about a specific hotel in San Ignacio.
The hotel I have (tentatively) chosen in San Ignacio, Belize, is called The Maya Mountain Lodge. Can anyone tell me whether or not I’ll regret staying in this place or can I expect a trouble-free stay. (I’ll be there two nights.)

Judging by all the reviews on sites like Tripadvisor.com. Expedia.com, and FamilyVacationCritic.com, the Maya Mountain Lodge gets very positive reviews (typically about four out of five stars). I haven't stayed here so can't speak directly to the actual experience you will have, but seems like a solid choice. Another lodge you might consider in the area, which comes with glowing reviews from one of our regular travel writers, Steve Jermanok, is the Lodge at Chaa Creek. You can read his review here: http://away.com/resorts/the-lodge-at-chaa-creek-bl-hotelid809877.html. I've worked with Steve over many years and can attest to his good judgment! San Ignacio is a great place in which to base yourself to explore the Belizean interior. The jungle-fringed town is the gateway to some of the best Mayan ruins in Central America, including the famous complexes of Caracol and Xunantunich, as well as Tikal across the border in Guatemala. The limestone caves at Barton Creek are very popular, with canoe and kayaking tours that will take you through the caverns.
