The Algarve enjoys one of the sunniest, driest, and warmest climates in Europe year round, with only a short period of rainfall between November and March.
Winter air and water temperatures hover around 60 degrees Fahrenheit, never falling below zero, making The Algarve a popular destination during the colder season, unlike other Mediterranean tourist spots that simply close down.
The rougher western side of The Algarve peninsula is characterized by cliffs and caves, while its southern side has softer beaches and gentler waves.
Not all beaches in the area are suitable for swimming because of sloping sea beds or swift currents, so be sure to heed warnings.
