Editorial Contributor's Guidelines

Content on The Away Network (Away.com, GORP.com, OutsideOnline.com) comes from in-house writers, our stable of regular contributors, and Outside magazine. While there are opportunities to freelance for Away.com and GORP.com, we rarely assign articles to unsolicited queries. Please note there is a separate query process for Outside magazine (see Outside's Contributor's Guidelines).

Generally, we encourage professional writers and photographers to first query us with their proposals, and provide credentials, clips, and areas of interest/expertise. Please include the word "Query" in the subject heading and DO NOT send attachments. We will be in touch should we wish to pursue your proposal, and we'll add your information to our database of people to contact with details of upcoming assignments.

Unfortunately, due to the number of submissions we receive each week, we cannot respond to each of you individually. Please include an SASE for any material you send by mail that you want returned.

PAYMENT AND RIGHTS INFORMATION
The Away Network buys non-exclusive print and online rights to all material, to be featured on the appropriate Web site as long as we deem necessary. (You are quite free to sell the material elsewhere, however.) Once purchased, content may also be released for third-party syndication with The Away Network's affiliates and partners. Payment is scaled to article length and subject matter.
